Sabres Top Willmar
The Sabres girls basketball team rebounded after a tough overtime loss to ROCORI on Friday, to beat conference foe, Willmar 56-52 Thursday night at Sartell. Emma Mitzel stole the ball at half court and was fouled on her lay-up attempt with under 2 minutes remaining in the game. She nailed 1 of 2 free throws to tie the game up. After a good defensive stop, Kendra Raths hit a 3 point shot with 45 seconds remaining in the game to give the Sabres the lead for good. Raths led the team in scoring with 18 points to go along with 5 steals. Kathryn Hoppert hit three 3 pointers for 9 points, while Emma Mitzel and Megan Sieben both chipped in 8 points. The Sabres will now play 3 games in the next four days. They will travel to Princeton on Saturday before returning home for back to back conference games against conference leaders St. Cloud Tech and Fergus Falls. Monday, February 10th, will be SAYBA night. All SAYBA team members and inhouse basketball participants are encouraged to attend the game! Wear your jersey/shirt and cheer loud! The 10,001 shot club members will also be acknowledged at halftime.
5-10 Sabres Head Into Busy February
The Sartell girls basketball team will take a 5-10 record into February, where they will play 11 games in the last four weeks of the regular season. The Sabres will be home for a conference game with Willmar on Thursday, February 6th. They will then head on the road to Princeton for a Saturday afternoon match up on February 8th at 2:15 before heading home for two conference games against St. Cloud Tech and Fergus Falls on February 10th and 11th. Senior and Parent night will be held on Thursday, February 20th when the Sabres host Sauk Rapids.
Sabres are 4-5 Heading into January
The Sabre hoopsters split in their holiday tournament at Detroit Lakes over the winter break. Sartell dropped the opening game to Detroit Lakes, but bounced back with a big win against East Grand Forks where they nailed a team record, 15 three pointers. To start the new year, the Sabres traveled to St. Cloud Tech, where they dropped the conference game to the Tigers 59-33. Next up for Sartell will be a match-up with one of the top teams in the state in class 3A, Fergus Falls. The Sabres will travel to Fergus on Thursday, January 9th and then will be on the road again Tuesday, January 14th at Sauk Rapids.
